Formed
in 1916 as a Hebrew school for Jewish youth, social
activities developed after WWI in a rented building on
Mill Street. By 1923, community interest in organizing a Jewish
Center grew, and the facility became too small. In
response to space and social needs, the growing
organization incorporated and rented a hall at Main and
Washington Streets. Thus, the birth of the Poughkeepsie
Jewish Community Center! DONATE
