It’s November, a month often thought of as a time to be thankful. It’s a time to not only realize all of our blessings like health, family, homes to live in and food to eat; but a time to show gratitude to those who do so much for us and others. November also happens to be National Alzheimer’s Disease awareness/Family Caregiver month. We’d like to send a big “Thank You” to the the 15 million+ caregivers in America who take care of who suffer from Alzheimer’s and dementia!
For those unfamiliar to Alzheimer’s Association, this nonprofit charity works on both a national and global scale in hopes of reaching out to those that have Alzheimer’s and their families.
In doing so their goals are:
- To find possible treatments
- Discover methods that could prevent the disease
- Unearth the cure
Alzheimer’s Association offers services including:
- A 24/7 hotline available in over 100 different languages
- Over 4,000 support groups countrywide
- Resources and information regarding Dementia and Alzheimer’s
- Safe services such as MedicAlert and Comfort Zone for individuals with Alzheimer’s
And yet one big question is: why are more people being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s?
This is a big concern considering Alzheimer’s is one of the top 10 causes of death in the United States. One would think genetics has a role in this. However there were so few situations of that, leaving genetics on the bottom on the list of conceivable causes.
With at least five million Americans having this dementia disease, possible connections have been found. Other illnesses such as high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes have both been linked to Alzheimer’s. And if that is the case, as more people are diagnosed with high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, there’s the possibility they could also get Alzheimer’s.
Now is a perfect time to recognize the services offered by Alzheimer’s Association as they continue their research and services to those who have this disease. Cash donations are always welcome, yet when cash is low another great way to help spearhead this cause is by vehicle donation. When you donate your car or truck, Alzheimer’s Association will be provided with more resources in carrying out their goals in finding a cure. It’s easy to gift your car, you can do it online and have your car picked up the next day, or give us a call at 1-800-237-5714.
