You may be wondering how to donate your car in Oregon to help fund the research for a cure for psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis, but you never have to wonder who will benefit from your generosity. 2017 marks the 50th anniversary since the start of the National Psoriasis Foundation. With five decades of research, patient support, and service they have been and remain at the forefront of the battle to find a cure for psoriatic disease. This year they are increasing their efforts even more and are tireless in their efforts to not only find a cure but to make treatment more affordable for psoriasis patients.

More Than a Rash

Many people mistakenly believe that psoriasis is simply a skin irritation, a rash that is itchy and maybe uncomfortable, but the reality of psoriasis is much more threatening. Psoriatic disease is an autoimmune disease which affects the skin, particularly the knees, elbows, and scalp of the body; causing a buildup of skin cells in this area, creating a raised, red, itchy area. Psoriasis can also affect other parts of the body and can be extremely painful. It is not a contagious disease, and while the exact cause is unknown, doctors do know that immune system function and genetic pre-disposition do play a role in getting the disease.

Psoriasis typically shows up between 15 and 35 years of age, but still, as many as 20,000 children are diagnosed with psoriasis each year. Of the patients diagnosed with psoriasis, approximately 30% will develop psoriatic arthritis, a condition that leads to swollen, stiff, and painful joints.

The Discovery Fund

The National Psoriasis Foundation has supported research for a cure for many years. One of their top priorities is their Discovery Fund, a program that gives grants to new ideas for a cure. This much needed program is supported by the generous donations of people who donate their cars, boats, and monetary funds to help find a way to reduce the pain and discomfort that so many struggle with.

50th Year Celebration

This year the National Psoriasis Foundation held a 50th Year Celebration at New York City’s Plaza Hotel on June 8th. This fundraising event was the perfect way to find learn about the strides being made to find a cure and to improve daily life of psoriasis patients.
