If you struggled with crisis in your youth or have a passion for helping young people then you may be drawn to the mission of the Wind Youth Services. Their aim is to provide support services and opportunities to homeless youth as they work to gain better lives and independence. Sometimes we all need someone to give us a second chance, or a third chance. This is especially true for our youth.
Young people who do not have safe shelter or who have great instability in their lives sometimes just need a renewed belief in themselves along with an opportunity for a better life so they can thrive. Wind Youth Services, located in Sacramento, is one of the only agencies in the area focusing solely on homeless, runaway, street youth and transition age youth.
Your car donation to Wind Youth Services can help them continue to provide and expand their help and have less youth on waiting lists for help.
Some of The Programs Offered by Wind Youth Services Are:
- Drop in Centers. Youth can have access to shelter, warm meals, peer support, laundry services, assistance for employment and education, therapeutic groups, showers, crisis intervention and more.
- Emergency Youth Shelters. These are low barrier emergency overnight shelters for youth from 12 to 24 years old providing safe, supportive non-judgmental support.
- Street Outreach. They have the only street outreach program in Sacramento, designed to reach homeless youth where they are, offering them shelter, sack lunches, transportation, first aid supplies, personal hygiene and more.
- Housing Programs. This helps youth from the ages of 18 to 24 years transition by providing a two-year living program where they pay a portion of their income to rent. They live independently in their own apartments and are given intensive support with a case manager.
As the homeless youth grow so does the urgency to address their needs and work towards prevention. You can help make positive changes in the lives of youth by supporting the Wind Youth Services and by helping where you can in your area.
