1. Thymus Gland
This is a small gland located beneath the breastbone in your upper chest. The key immune cells known at T cells mature here and become cells that fight infection and cancer.
2. Lymph Nodes
These are small glands located all through the body. They filter viruses, bacteria and even cancer cells, which are then killed by special white blood cells. This is where your T cells are programmed to destroy harmful germs in your body.
The spleen in situated to the left of the stomach. It’s function is to filter blood and provide storage for platelets and white blood cells. It also is a place where key immune cells called B cells multiply so they can fight harmful invaders.
The appendix is a thin tube that is approximately four to six inches long. It is located in the lower right of the abdomen and it’s exact function is to really known. However, one belief is that it acts as a storage site for the good digestive bacteria.
5. Bone Marrow
This is the soft, sponge-like material that is inside bones. Inside bone marrow are immature cells that divide to form more blood-forming stem cells, or mature into red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
