With a couple hundred dollars and a shoebox filled with names in her living room, Nancy G. Brinker, Sister of Suzy Koman, began her global breast cancer movement. Since that day in 1982, she has helped build Susan G. Komen®, a global community of advocates, scientists, friends and neighbors united together to end breast cancer.

After fighting this disease with her sister and watching her lose the battle, Nancy took up the torch to do all she could do to help other women with breast cancer. Read her inspiring story that started this movement.

Today, Susan G. Komen® has invested more than $804 million dollars into breast cancer research, more than any other organization. Because of research, the death rate in America due to breast cancer has dropped by over 30% in two decades. Five-year relative survival rates for early stage cancer individuals are up from 74% to 99%. They have taken on the battle to provide care for the uninsured and the poor, investing $1.7 billion dollars in making programs possible.

These are some of the reasons why we have partnered with the Susan G. Komen® Nevada for car donations for cancer.

Providing Grants

Funding a variety of community-based treatment projects, diagnosis and breast cancer screenings is one of the effective projects provided by Susan G. Komen® Nevada. These programs are carefully reviewed to provide the greatest impact for women who are underinsured or uninsured within the southern Nevada area.

Research Programs

You might be surprised to learn that each major advance in the battle against breast cancer has been affected by Susan G. Komen. Their goal has been set to “energize science to find the cures.” With thirty years of research behind them, Koman has amped up their focus on research to increase the adapting of discoveries to lower breast cancer mortality rates and incidences within the next ten years.

Hosting Events

In aiming for a world without breast cancer, Koman Nevada hosts events to bring awareness, gain support and raise money for breast cancer. On Saturday, May 4, 2019, the Koman Las Vegas MORE THAN PINK WALK™ will be held at Green Valley Ranch in Henderson, Nevada. Register here. This walk has raised over $18 thousand with a goal to raise $400 thousand. Fundraising helps reduce the existing number of breast cancer deaths by 50%.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women except for cancers of the skin. Yet it can be treated successfully. Chances for survival are highest when found early through screening tests. While the signs for breast cancer may be different for each individual, it is vital to be aware of how your breasts normally feel and look. See your doctor if you notice a change.
