The mission of the Friendship Center of New Britain is to provide friendship and direct service to the poor and needy of Central Connecticut, including the ownership and operation of housing for the poor.
How Your Donation Helps
Friendship Service Center is a homeless services agency which operates an emergency shelter for individuals and families, emergency financial assistance, food pantry for people with HIV/AIDS, and soup kitchen for anyone in need. Agency also manages a transitional living residence for men or women referred by a shelter.
Monsignor Joseph Farrell had an idea of how to help “street alcoholics” back in the 60’s. He would open a drop in Center to provide them with food, a place to get them off the streets during the day and the fellowship of those who cared.
From that humble start, the Friendship Center has grown to encompass a Continuum of Care philosophy of offering services for those who are poor, hungry and homeless. The growth process is a story in itself, each added service an act of faith always keeping in mind the original dream born fruit in the heart and mind of our founder.
