September is Leukemia Awareness month and we are teaming up with The Cancer Hope Network to help bring awareness and support to better fight this disease.

When a person is diagnosed with leukemia, they may feel helpless and even quite fearful. The Cancer Hope Network provides one-on-one support at no cost to those affected by leukemia. They help train volunteers who have similar experiences and match them to those persons or families in need. You can help the Cancer Hope Network in their mission to instill hope and a positive difference in lives affected by cancer by donating your car. Your car donation through Donate-a-car is easy and can help a child or adult suffering from leukemia.

Leukemia is cancer of the blood cells generated by a surge of white blood cells which forces out the red blood cells that a body needs to be healthy. The extra white blood cells do not function properly which causes problems. Leukemia affects more adults than children and is more common in men.

It is not known precisely what causes leukemia, and it isn’t really preventable. However, there are some things in your environment that might trigger its development. Things like tobacco smoking will make a person more prone to some types of leukemia than a non-smoker. Exposure to certain chemicals and high amounts of radiation as well as family history can all trigger the development leukemia.

Symptoms and Signs of Leukemia include:

  • Fever
  • Weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Bleeding
  • Shortness of breath
  • Abnormal paleness
  • Infections that are repeated
  • Bone pain
  • Rashes or skin irritations
  • Easy bruising
  • Irritability
