In Defense of Animals is a nonprofit 501(c)[3] charitable organization founded in 1983. Despite the enormous resistance to our efforts, and how very far we have yet to go, IDA and the animal rights movement have in fact made great strides and accomplished much over the past decade. Unfortunately, the reality is that our fight will never be truly over. For as long as there are animals treated as property to be bought and sold, there will, I am afraid, always be those who will fight with all their might to exploit and harm them. Because of this reality, those of us who care must continue to grow, increase our resources, never become complacent, and do everything in our power to develop the spirit of compassion, cooperation and togetherness that will allow us to intensify and expand our efforts to turn back the tides of cruelty and exploitation.
