The Sacramento Association for the Retarded is a nonprofit organization formed over forty-five years ago at a time when services were not available for people with mental retardation. It was for this reason that parents organized SAR. Since then, SAR has been an operator and developer of many invaluable programs and services for individuals with mental retardation and their families. Today, SAR provides advocacy, future planning and conservatorship services, workshops, transportation coordination and protection services.
